The purpose of the
program is to encourage students to examine the career opportunities
available in the health sciences fields as well as to encourage,
inspire, and motivate students for higher education and health sciences
fields. Parents and students will discuss the necessary qualifications
for these challenging and rewarding professions, receive information on
high school and college preparatory course work, financial aid
information, and advantages to setting career goals. There will also be
a tour of the West Virginia University sports facilities.
The Health
Sciences Seminar will be selecting 50 students and their parents from
West Virginia. Student selection will be based upon interest in
science and mathematics and who show a desire for higher educational
goals. Other eligibility requirements include having a disadvantaged
status (financial and first-generation college bound) and being from
underrepresented minority groups.
The University
will provide this seminar free to students and parents/guardians. Sponsored by West Virginia
University's Division of Student Affairs and
the Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP).
